Description

The 5003-0 Crockett is a downgraded version of the 'Mech first spotted in 2881. The 'Mech retains the same overall feel of the 5003-1 but uses only technology available to the Great Houses during the Succession Wars. The ER Large Lasers have been replaced with Large Lasers models and the LB-X autocannon has been downgraded to a standard AC/10. In addition, the double heat sinks that made the 'Mech capable of a very high rate of fire have been downgraded to single versions that can only dissipate half as much heat as those carried by the 5003-1 Crockett. Overall, the Crockett did not fare well without its advanced technologies and was generally relegated to the scrap heap.

Description

Introduced in 2735, the Crockett was originally designed and built for the Star League as a training BattleMech with combat capability. However, SLDF commanders began to realize that Blankenburg Technologies had taken the combat capability requirement almost too seriously and began fielding the mech in combat situations. It was so effective that it eventually went extinct in the Inner Sphere during the Succession Wars. The original variant, the CRK-5003-1, was armed with a LB-10X Autocannon, a pair of SRM-6s, and a pair each of ER Large and standard Small Lasers. 3 Jump Jets keep it mobile and 15 DHS keep it cool.

Description

This SLDF Royal variant introduced in 2752 replaces the LB 10-X autocannon and SRM launchers with a suite of Medium Lasers and Medium Pulse Lasers. Each arm mounts an ER Large Laser with a medium laser and MPL mounted alongside. The head and center torso each mount a MPL as well. For long range firepower, a Gauss Rifle with two tons of ammo is mounted in the left torso.

Description

The Katana began its existence when the Draconis Combine was given several downgraded Crockett BattleMechs by ComStar as part of Operation Rosebud. Ostensibly Crocketts with all their advanced tech removed, the mechs accidentally still had their LB-10X Autocannons installed. The Combine studied them, reverse engineered the weapons, and renamed them as the Katana. The Katana shares many of the same features as the Crockett, right down to the serial number. In its left torso is a LB-X Autocannon/10 which draws from a two-ton ammo bin. A pair of Large Lasers split between both arms take the place of the extended-range versions found in the Crockett. For close-range combat it carries two SRM-6s and for point blank defense the 'Mech carries two Small Lasers.

It was so effective that it eventually went extinct in the Inner Sphere during the Succession Wars. Created by Grumium Creations in 3062, the CRK-5003-3 is the same as the 5003-1 except that it loses half a ton of armor for CASE and shuffles around the ammo slightly.

A simple variant of the Katana introduced in 3057, the 5003-C variant is a modification intended to carry a C3 Slave unit into battle. In order to achieve this, the 'Mech has removed both of the small lasers from the chassis, freeing up the needed room for the slave unit and allowing the Katana to share targeting data with friendly units.

Ostensibly Crocketts with all their advanced tech removed, the mechs accidentally still had their LB-10X Autocannons installed. The Combine studied them, reverse engineered the weapons, and renamed them as the Katana. Introduced at the same time as the C variant, this modification is intended to carry a C3 Computer onto the battlefield to coordinate a C3 Lance. The CM variant does this by removing one of the SRM-6 launchers to make room for the master computer. This also allows the 'Mech to share targeting data with friendly units.

Description

An upgrade of the 5003-3 introduced in 3063, the 5004-1 makes use of a C3i Computer to enable the Crockett to share targeting data with other members of its Level II. In order to free up room, a ton of autocannon ammunition has been removed and the missile launchers have been downgraded to SRM-4s. The remaining half-ton went to the addition of CASE. Finally, all the lasers have been upgraded to extended range models.
