Event Details:

WARNING: SPOILERS

You get a ping from Slapdash and Farah asking you to come down to the Engineering Deck. Almost as soon as you step off the lift, they start talking excitedly:

"Commander! We think we can get another half-gee out of the drives if we just-"

"Fabricobble a scaled-up BattleMech Supercharger system and-"

"Reinforce the drive mountings and auxiliary cooling systems!" they finish simultaneously.

They hand you a design document with options for installation, maintenance costs and risk mitigation. As with most things, there's a right way and a cheap way. The right way costs 1,000,000 C-Bills but should be finished relatively quickly. The cheap way costs a quarter as much, but Farah will be ironing out the kinks in the new drive for a while. Either way, the increased g-force will be an uncomfortable adjustment for the crew.

SERIOUSLY, MASSIVE SPOILERS AHEAD. CLICK HERE FOR FULL BREAKDOWN OF EVENT OPTIONS

Option A - (Requirement: Company has at least 1,000,000 C-Bills) "Do it the right way.":

Modifying an interplanetary drive is no easy task, especially on a ship the size of the Argo. By spending the extra time and money to prefabricate most of the drive and cooling reinforcements, Slapdash and Farah manage to have the supercharged drive system up and running with almost no downtime. Slapdash and Farah say the new system has added another .5 g to the drives. For ease of reference, they've painted the new components a particularly hideous shade of red.

Result:

  • Argo travel speed increased by 10%
  • Company C-Bills reduced by 1,000,000
  • Morale reduced by 2
  • Slapdash gains High Spirits for 60 days

Option B - (Requirement: Company has at least 250,000 C-Bills) "Do it on the cheap.":

Modifying an interplanetary drive is no easy task, especially on a ship the size of the Argo. In order to save money on the installation, Slapdash and Farah had to remove half the drive mountings and most of the auxiliary cooling systems to even begin installing the supercharger system. The drive performance will be a little unpredictable until they calibrate the new systems, but Slapdash estimates the supercharger should add another .5 g once it's up and running. For ease of reference, they've painted the new components a particularly hideous shade of red.

The Argo makes for a jarring and bumpy ride that no-one appreciates. Farah says the Argo will be slow for 30 days, and you keep reminding the crew this will pay off in the end.

Result:

  • Argo travel speed halved for 30 days
  • Argo travel speed increased by 10%
  • Company C-Bills reduced by 250,000
  • Morale reduced by 5

Option C - "Hold off on the upgrade for now.":

Unfortunately, sometimes speed takes a back seat to the bottom line, and the bottom line is that an extra .5 g just isn't worth the cost right now. Maybe once the company finances show more black than red, you can take another look at their proposal. In the meantime, Slapdash is pretty disappointed.

Result:

  • Slapdash gains Low Spirits for 30 days
