The following is a brief summary and an explanation of what requirements you need to meet in order to get the event to fire. Further details are provided but they contain spoilers. Don't read them unless you really want to know exactly what happens in the event.

Summary:

Freakshow struggles with addiction.

Event Trigger Requirements:

  • Freakshow is a member of the crew
  • Freakshow is injured
  • Argo MedBay 2 upgrade unlocked

Event Details:


WARNING: SPOILERS

Darius summons you to the medbay where Freakshow is strapped to a bed, muttering.

"...They're always departing but they never arrive... And the ones that do arrive... They never leave... You never see them go they're always full... No one ever gets on but they're always..."

"He's been like this since he took a hit in that last op. Doc Cobble gave him an antipsychotic so he should be coming around now."

"Freakshow, we need to start getting you sober. You're no good to anyone like this."

"M-M-Maybe not, but I need the booze. To keep my e-e-edge. Doc just needs to give me somethin'. A little boost."

Option A - "Order him into rehab.":

"You're going to start a rehab program, and that's an order."

"But I need the drugs..." Freakshow starts.

"Bullshit! You were a fine pilot before you started downing a bottle of solvent with every op, and you'll be a fine pilot after you dry up a bit. Doc, on a ship this large there's bound to be a support group of some kind. I don't need to know the details, but I'll trust you to handle the necessary introductions."

"Copy that, Commander. Drying up is gonna kick your ass for a while, Freakshow, but I daresay you'll live a hell of a lot longer."

Result:

  • Freakshow loses pilot tag: drunk
  • Freakshow's Tactics stat increase by 1
  • Freakshow's Gunnery, Piloting, Guts and Tactics stats decrease by 2 for 30 days


Option B - "Have Doc give him something.":

"Doc, you have anything to stabilize him longer-term?"

Doc sighs and lights up another smoke. "I'll tell you the same thing I told him. That cocktail of shit he keeps putting in himself is gonna kill him eventually, and without a Hospital Bay there's nothing I can do to prevent it. But yeah, I can give him an injection of QuickStim to keep him going for a while."

"Hot damn Doc, you're the best!" Freakshow immediately perks up and begins to roll up his sleeve.

Doc glances at Freakshow with a smirk, picks up the largest needle you've ever seen, and says "Oh, its not that kind of injection. Now roll over."

Result:

  • Freakshow's Gunnery and Tactics stats increase by 1
  • Freakshow gains High Spirits for 30 days

Note: Choosing this option unlocks another event called "Fill And Forget".


Option C - "Fire him.":

"Oh, you don't wanna dry up? Fine. You're fired."

"But Comman-"

"No buts. You've been a gods-damned liability since day one, and I'm not about to sink any more time and money into you or the mechs you wreck. Next shuttle, I want your sorry ass off my ship."

A little while later, Darius meets you in your quarters. "Commander, I know Freakshow was a liability, but he's also a former pirate. He could make trouble for us later."

"Then we'll deal with that the same way we deal with anything else. Dismissed."

Result:

  • Freakshow's Gunnery and Tactics stats increase by 1
  • Freakshow gains High Spirits for 30 days
