A Pirate's Life: X Marks The Spot

The following is a brief summary and an explanation of what requirements you need to meet in order to get the event to fire. Further details are provided but they contain spoilers. Don't read them unless you really want to know exactly what happens in the event.

Summary:

Event #1a in the A Pirate's Life event chain.

Roberts sends you details for one of his special contracts.

Event Trigger Requirements:


WARNING: SPOILERS
  • Accepted Roberts' offer in A Pirate's Life 1
  • The Argo is not currently traveling to a new system
  • You do not currently have a travel contract active
  • You have not rejected an X Marks The Spot/The Devil You Know contract against this faction in the last 60 days OR completed an X Marks The Spot/The Devil You Know contract against this faction in the last 90 days

Event Details:

"Commander, Roberts has forwarded us the details for one of his "special" contracts. I'll spare you the mental anguish of reading the message yourself, but suffice to say that he's found the location and manifest for a secret <Faction> equipment cache. Apparently it includes a lot of high-end gear, stuff they reserve for their elite units. As always, if we're going to do it, we have to drop immediately."

Option A - "Take the contract":

"Ok people, you know the drill. Sumire, get the Leopard warmed up. Yang, get the MechBay ready for repair and recovery. We'll drop in, hit the guards, load up the goods, and get out."

Result:

  • X Marks The Spot contract added to the Command Center

Note:

  • Completing the X Marks The Spot mission rewards you with a Pirate Chest loot crate containing rare gear specific to the faction you attacked
  • Completing 1 "X Marks The Spot" or "The Devil You Know" contract unlocks the event A Pirate's Life 2
  • Completing 4 "X Marks The Spot" or "The Devil You Know" contracts unlocks the event A Pirate's Life 3
  • You will not be offered another contract against the same faction for at least 90 days


Option B - "Turn down the contract":

"XO, tell our contact that we're not equipped to take this contract at the moment."

"Understood Commander. He won't be happy, but there's nothing we can do about that."

  • You will not be offered another contract against this faction for at least 60 days

Hints:

  • In order to get either X Marks The Spot or The Devil You Know to trigger you need to enter systems controlled by a variety of different factions.
  • Be aware that the event won't fire immediately on entering the system, you may have to advance time a week or so in order to get it to pop up.
  • This event chain takes you on a grand tour of the Inner Sphere so be prepared to travel extensively.
