WARNING: SPOILERS

You have a message from Blaze. Apparently we've arrived in the system just in time for a race, and she needs to know whether to sign up:

Commander, if we're going to do this race, there are a few things you need to know. This one takes place in the desert, so we have a few options. I can push hard and drive aggressively, but we're gonna want to keep an eye on the heat gauge. In addition, this is a 500km route, so fuel might be a concern. On the other hand, I can play it a bit safer and hope to make up the time in the straightaways. Like most of these races, there's also an optional "shortcut" route; looks like it runs through a crystal field, but that shouldn't make a difference for us. Just let me know how you'd like to proceed, and I'll get things ready to go. Of course if we don't have time, I understand.

Option A - "Drive aggressively.":

With Blaze pushing the poor Apocalypse as hard as she cold, eventually the old warhorse gave up the ghost in a massive cloud of white smoke and steam. You can hear Yang grumbling already: "Ah. Head gasket, my old friend. We meet again." Even worse, the rescue vehicles couldn't pick up the now-severely dehydrated Blaze until 4 hours after the race ended.

Result:

  • Morale decreased by 2
  • Company C-Bills decreased by 100,000
  • 1 race loss added to season record
  • Blaze gains 1 injury
  • Company Mech Tech skill reduced by 2 for 7 days

Option B - "Play it safe.":

The scorching heat of the desert was never going to be kind to the old Apocalypse. Drive too hard and you'll blow the head gasket. Drive like you've got a baby on board, and you'll never get ahead. Even with the extra range of the Apocalypse's fuel tank, Blaze just couldn't overtake enough of her faster competitors to win.

Result:

  • 1 race loss added to season record

Option C - "Take the shortcut.":

Taking the shortcut through the crystal field was a no-brainer. The rugged Apocalypse shrugged off the tiny rocks, and the extra range in the fuel tank meant that Blaze could keep going while most of her competitors had to stop and refuel. With the time advantage given by the shortcut, she was able to edge out the last of her competitors, taking a hard-fought victory.

Result:

  • Morale increased by 1
  • Company C-Bills increased by 100,000
  • 1 race win added to season record

Option D - "Hold off on racing for now.":

Blaze knows that contracts are more important than racing. Besides, there are plenty of other races to run.

Result:

  • No change

Note: selecting this option does not lock you out of accepting the Dakar 306X race event in the future.
