Pirate Harassment
The following is a brief summary and an explanation of what requirements you need to meet in order to get the event to fire. Further details are provided but they contain spoilers. Don't read them unless you really want to know exactly what happens in the event.
Summary:
TaintedLoki asks for some help dealing with some local pirates.
Event Trigger Requirements:
- The Argo is not currently traveling to a new system
- The Argo is in a populated system
- TaintedLoki is a member of the crew
- TaintedLoki is uninjured
Event Details:
WARNING: SPOILERS
TaintedLoki addresses you: "Commander, I've been monitoring radio traffic planetside. It seems pirates are disrupting the lives of the local population. I'd really like us to do something about it."
You wonder if it is worthwhile taking a job that doesn't pay, besides getting involved without a contract might have a negative effect on your reputation with the local government.
"Take a look at this." Loki says with a scowl on his face. He holds up a datapad which shows the desolate faces of starving people dejectedly handing over their supplies.
Loki spits: "I'm going in, Commander, and I hope you are too."

Option A - "Warn Loki he can only act off the record.":
As Loki makes his way planetside you monitor his radio chatter. He seems to be making a mess of the local pirates, but without a 'Mech or other backup. You get wind he might be caught? Is he... dead?
You don't know, but Loki doesn't seem to be coming back to the ship. You hope his actions meant something to the people. Darius declares Loki AWOL, and you have to move on.
Result:
- TaintedLoki leaves the company
- Commander gains Low Spirits for 30 days
Note: Choosing this option unlocks another event called "Distress Call".
Option B - (Requirement: Commander has skill Guts 5 or higher and is uninjured) "Hand Loki a mask. Go together to beat the thugs up.":
Back at the Argo's Medbay you reminisce with TaintedLoki over how you managed to suckerpunch the pirates.
"Look, I don't like the 'Get Help' Routine, but it's very effective." Loki smirks.
You laugh as you remember dragging Loki towards the enemy shouting for help, then throwing Loki at them. Those were some quality fisticuffs. Too bad about all the bruises.
Result:
- Commander gains 1 injury
- TaintedLoki gains 1 injury
- Commander gains High Spirits for 30 days
- TaintedLoki gains High Spirits for 30 days
Option C - (Requirement: Commander has skill Gunnery 5 or higher) "Tell Loki you're willing to misplace an artillery shell.":
"I didn't say anything, Mr. TaintedLoki." You remind the MechWarrior.
"I didn't hear anything." Loki smiles back, with a mischievous glint in his eyes.
You tune in to the Radio Chatter: "Observer Actual this is Fire Control: Target Locked. Firing for Effect. HE 5 rounds. Danger Close."
You recognise Loki's voice: "Fire Control this is Observer Actual: Confirmed. Shot, out."
Moments later: "Fire Control this is Observer Actual: Good Effect on target. Targets Destroyed. Collateral... significant."
You spot a disheartened Loki later. He wasn't in it for the collateral. It really is a shame that the tags were messed up.
Result:
- Local Pirates faction reputation decreased by 2
- Local Government faction reputation decreased by 2
- TaintedLoki gains Low Spirits for 30 days
Option D - (Requirement: Commander has skill Tactics 5 or higher) "Tell Loki to sneak an Artillery Beacon into the food crates.":
You tune in to the Radio Chatter: "Observer Actual this is Fire Control: Target Locked on Beacon Alpha. Firing for Effect. HE 5 rounds. Danger Close."
You recognise TaintedLoki's voice: "Fire Control this is Observer Actual: Confirmed. Shot, out."
Moments later: "Fire Control this is Observer Actual: Good Effect on target. Targets Destroyed. No collateral."
You spot a grinning Loki later who all but skips through the Argo for a few days. It really is a pleasure when the tags are on point.
Result:
- TaintedLoki gains High Spirits for 30 days
