Description
The original primitive Orion 'Mech as it was first commissioned lacked an LRM launcher and used an Autocannon/5 in place of the AC/10. A massive engine allowed the 'Mech to obtain a maximum speed of nearly 64.8 km/h, however there was not enough saved weight to mount additional weaponry besides two Medium Lasers, one in each arm. Description
The ON1-H was the primitive prototype of the Orion that was eventually accepted for mass production in 2456. While slower than the first iterations, with a top speed of only 54 km/h, due to the inclusion of a smaller engine, the additional weight saved allowed the designers to mount far more firepower. A newly developed Class-10 Prototype Autocannon was installed and two tons of ammo in place of the AC/5. This was backed up by two 5-tube Long-Range Missile launchers with one ton of reloads for striking enemies at range and a SRM-4 missile launcher and a ton of ammunition for close-in defense. It was also heavily protected by 21 tons of armor. Description
The Orion K was the first true heavy 'Mech. As a multirole brawler, the Orion can engage enemies at a variety of ranges, and with plenty of armor, it can survive combined fire for quite some time. Slow, yes-but powerful.

Description
The M variant is an upgrade using Star League technology. Replacing the standard engine with a XL Engine and shaving off a half-ton of armor allows the 'Mech to retain the same speed while mounting a number of upgrades. The LRM-15 has been replaced with a LRM-20 launcher and the Autocannon/10 has been upgraded to a LB-X Autocannon/10. In addition a Narc Missile Beacon launcher was added to the center torso while the SRM-4 and the medium lasers have been retained. The use of eleven double heat sinks also solves any problems associated with overheating.

A third minor variant of the ON1-M also introduced in 3058. The designers removed both missile racks and Narc launcher to make room for Medium Range Missile. In place of the LRM-20 is a MRM-20 while a larger MRM-30 is crammed in the torso where the SRM-4 formerly sat. Enough room is left to add a head-mounted C3 Slave Unit. This variant was much-used by the Draconis Combine.

Description
Aleksandr Kerensky is most famous for having saved the Inner Sphere from the dominion of Stefan Amaris but it should be remembered that he was also an adept MechWarrior. This Orion is patterned after Kerensky's own, the very one that he used to drag Stefan Amaris out of the Star League Palace with and the one that Stefan surrendered in front of. Nicknamed Protector, it carries a brutal loadout of a Gauss Rifle, a (then experimental) Snub-Nose PPC, an Artemis-enabled SRM-4, and a pair of Medium Lasers.

Description
The Orion-R is designed to make the Orion into a true all-range mech that is threatening at any distance to any opponent, though it is arguable if it succeeded or not. The -R carries a pair of LRM-10s for long range firepower while a Rotary Autocannon/2 performs at long to medium ranges with aplomb. At closer ranges, the -R carries 5 SRM-4s, giving it intense point-blank firepower against anything that under-runs the LRMs and Rotary. 12 double heat sinks do their best with the mech's heat and power comes from a XL fusion engine. CASE protects the generous ammo bins.

Description
The Orion 2-MD2 doubles down on the switch to using the Rotary Autocannon 5 in place of the LB-10X of the ON1-MD by adding a second RAC/5 in the right torso. Endo Steel structure frees weight for the addition of two MRM10s for midrange punching power. The right arm carries a single Medium X-Pulse Laser as an energy backup, which feels like an after thought. Thirteen tons of Light Ferro Fibrous armor enrobe the chassis, and CASE II secures the ammo in the left torso.

The ON2-G is an unusual design for an Orion in that it is primarily energy-focused and totally lacks ballistic weaponry. Armed principly with a massive Gamma Cannon, the ON2-G is capable of smashing just about anything at any range. A VRM-24 backs up the Gamma Cannon at long range. Up close, the -G can call on a DXR for support. 12 DHS and 6 Heat Controllers help keep the heat at manageable levels.

A heavy Terran Hegemony classic, the Orion served that nation for centuries without complaint. Similarly, it also served their descendants in the Sanctuary Worlds as the ON2-K. Armed with a traditional melange of weaponry, the ON2-K is a powerful heavy mech and capable of almost anything. Armed with a Double-Barrel AC/15, a VRM-18, a DRM-4, and twin Medium Electro-Lasers, the ON2-K is a powerful combatant at any range. However, only 10 Sanctuary-spec DHS is generally considered insufficient for a full alpha strike, so pilots are cautioned to use discretion with the trigger.
