v17.4 (aka the "Amaris Fools!" patch) has been released to the installer. It's our annual April Fool's patch so you'll definitely want to see what we've got cookin' this time!

v15.2 (aka the "Holy Shit That's a Lotta Mechs" patch) has been released to the installer. This is a fairly substantial patch, so let's get to it:
+
'''SOMEHOW, AMARIS RETURNED:''' The Inner Sphere once knew true fear as Stefan Amaris, the Usurper of the Star League and conquerer of the Hegemony, crushed those who dared stand before his might and now, after centuries of hiding, he has returned to claim what is rightfully his. His realm, the Rim Worlds Republic, lives again and the worlds of the former Terran Hegemony will be his once more. If you dare, you can stand against his forces and be obliterated by his new superweapons in combat. If you are willing to accept him as your rightful lord though you can aid in his takeover and reap the plentiful rewards that come with such obesiance (put plainly, you can work for the RWR and ally with them; the RWR faction store has some unique mech variants and four new unique superweapons you can buy: the Meatgrinder MG, the Death Ray, the Mercy autocannon, and the Atom Smasher/10).

'''EVERYONE READ THIS DAMN YOUR GOD DAMN EYEHOLES:''' This patch has a new installer attached to it, you will need to download the new installer for this patch. While this is unexpected and annoying, it also comes with our next piece of big news...
+
'''THE RATTLER COMETH:''' Ok, you might think this is an April Fool's event but no, this is very real. The Rattler Mobile Fortress has been added to BTA as a unique "monster" fight akin to the Union and Overlord dropships. However, fighting a Rattler is like fighting a mobile mountain. It has no turrets that are easily killed like the dropships, instead the literally hundreds and hundreds of tons of weapons are built right into the body and are active right up until you kill the whole damn thing. Oh, and it has three Barracuda capital-scale missile launchers and a Sub-Capital Naval Laser to boot. Good luck, you are gonna need it. To be honest, I am dubious that you can kill it without extreme cheese but should you manage it, you'll get the ultimate reward (beat it to find out what it is). Finally, in order to fight this monster you must fly to Terra itself and buy the contract in the store, just like the dropship fights.

'''READ THIS ONE TOO CURSE YOU:''' ...we have major performance upgrades! The new installer is required to install these performance upgrades. They should provide a noticeable upgrade to performance, though they will not fix the entire memory leak that the game suffers from, just helps with it. You'll definitely want these upgrades though, so go get the new installer and download BTA!

'''THE HANSEATIC CRUSADE HAS ARRIVED:''' As many of you predicted, the inclusion of the Goliath Scorpions and Nueva Castile was 100% a prelude to the Hanseatic Crusade. Starting in January 3065, Clan Goliath Scorpion will invade and assault the Hanseatic League and, over the course of that year and part of 3066, will eventually conquer it, ending in the foundation of the Scorpion Empire as the Clan unifies itself with Castile and the Hansa. You can participate in either side of the war as you like, the Scorpions will hire you and you can even ally with them (and later the Scorpion Empire) for access to their faction store. Enjoy the sprawling extended war!

'''NEW SUBSYTEM:''' BTA has introduced a brand-new mechanic, named SoldiersPiratesAssassinsMercs, but we'll call it SPAM for ease of reading. SPAM is a mechanic that permits the on-the-fly dynamic adjustment of OpFor factions. What this means, in a practical sense, is that sometimes you'll drop against a faction and someone *else* fights you instead, usually mercenaries. Example: The Taurian Concordat has the famous mercenary unit the Lone Star Regiment on their payroll right now. When you drop into a contract against the Concordat, there is a chance that the Lone Star Regiment either replaces the Taurians *or* sends a support lance to back them up. This means you can fight much wider rosters of enemies and there is a much greater depth of possible enemies. If you want to read more (and you do, there's so much more SPAM does), there is an FAQ post about it with more practical examples and more details on how it all works, find it in the Discord FAQ or the FAQ on the wiki!

'''NEW VOICEPACKS:''' At RogueTech's request, we have incorporated five new voicepacks from RT into BTA. These voicepacks include the Das, JellyRoll, MIG, Pagan, and Svelte voicepacks. I've given them a very cursory listen and they seem nice to me. BTA is still not super interested in further voicepacks but since RT asked nicely we decided to incorporate them as a favor to RT. Thanks, RT, for the extra content! <3

'''IMPORTANT NOTE ABOUT SPAM:''' One of the things SPAM permits me to do is to divide up the Clan factions into their front-line forces and their second-line garrision forces. In Clan fluff, the front-line galaxies get OmniMechs and don't use shitty IICs or BattleMechs because real warriors get real weapons and the second-line garrison forces get the IICs and BattleMechs and do *not* get good Omnis. BTA now reflects this, as the four Clans you can fight in combat all are divided up into their front-line and second-line factions, with appropriate units. Example: There is now Clan Jade Falcon and CJF Iota Galaxy; Clan Jade Falcon is the front-line force and Iota Galaxy is the second-line garrison boys. Jade Falcon will field their OmniMechs and their good stuff while all the IICs and garrison designs will be relegated to Iota Galaxy. This is the case for Jade Falcon, Ghost Bear, Wolf, and Nova Cat, enjoy!

'''DFA PENALTIES IMPLEMENTED:''' In order to attempt to curb the AI's extreme overuse of Death-From-Above attacks, we have implemented a DFA penalty setting. Right now, the DFA penalty is +7, which is pretty steep. We'll see if it helps curb the AI's bad behavior or not.

'''UPDATED RESOLVE MECHANIC:''' Resolve in BTA has long been individual by pilot in terms of *use* but has been global in terms of *gaining resolve*. That changes today. Now, resolve gain is individually tracked per pilot and unit. This means that if you have a Mackie with Improved Communications, it only works for *its pilot's resolve pool*. Most resolve sources in BTA have been swapped to this (including quirks, most gear, and affinities), with a few that make sense remaining global. Generally, gear will now say if it is individual resolve gain or global resolve gain, read the descriptions closely.
+
'''DROP SLOT ADJUSTMENT:''' The UI has improved for putting Battle Armor onto BA carrier units. Now, in the deployment screen you'll see that each unit has a pop-up slot that you can put a BA suit + pilot into (assuming the unit can *carry* BA in the first place; if it can't carry BA you'll still see the slot but you can't put anything in the slot). For now, the four dedicated BA slots remain in Lance 3 but they may be getting removed as it's not clear what they're really useful for anymore, we'll see.

'''NEW MECH:''' The Night Chanter has arrived. This Golden Century OmniMech twist on the Crab is available from the Dark Caste! It is a 45 ton OmniMech version of the Crab. Check it out! Note: Turtrus's special Crab affinity *also* works with the Night Chanter! **Requires Flashpoint DLC**
+
'''NEW PERFORMANCE ENHANCEMENT:''' Thanks to the work of community member, friend, and team member of BTA, Jamie Wolf, it has been discovered that HBS BT has a large amount of internal telemetry that HBS intended to use for data collection. However, that telemetry is no longer being used by HBS but *is* still running, causing noticeable performance slowdowns. In order to help performance, Jamie developed a mod that disables the telemetry from running and thus claws back some small performance gains. They're small but every bit counts! Thanks Jamie!

'''NEW MECH:''' The Spirit Walker is here. This Golden Century OmniMech is a Star League-era Black Knight rebuilt with Clan and OmniMech technologies. It is fielded by the Dark Caste, go get one!
+
'''UPDATED OMNIMECH LOADOUT:''' The Preta (the Word of Blake Celestial OmniMech) has had its loadouts adjusted. Now, they all have a Retractable Blade in the left arm. Your Pretas will need to be stored and re-readied to receive the updated blade and to fix any errors introduced in your loadouts. This was done because the Preta is unusual. While it does not have the blade model in the *mechbay*, it does have it *in battle*. This produces odd dissonance and we decided to make it properly reflect the in-combat visuals with the addition of the blade.

'''NEW MECH:''' The StarDrive Stiletto has skittered into play! This is an apocryphal 15-ton ultralight. It is *extremely* goofy looking and I love it. It's fielded almost exclusively by House Kurita and is even sold at Al Na'ir! Go buy one.
+
'''CLAN QUIRK MODIFIED:''' The Clan quirk now provides 10% decreased heat generation. This was done in order to help the Clans remain dangerous, help Clan chassis remain competitive, and to help the Clans manage their increased weapon heat in hot biomes.

'''NEW MECH:''' The Mushu has lept into the fray! This is a non-canon 45 ton Inner Sphere design that's all about that CT firepower! It is the first homegrown Aurigan Coalition design and can be found in their faction store, in their factory at Mechdur, and among their forces.
+
'''NEW MECH CHASSIS:''' The Tolson, a 60 ton non-canon Star League e-war chassis, has snuck into battle. This mech is focused heavily on command and control functions and serves as an excellent e-war platform thanks to its integrated Command Console. Find it wherever old Star League mechs are found, as well as in the factory at Tukayyid where ComStar produces it.

'''NEW MECH:''' Technically, the Wyvern IIC is a new chassis. It's really just a Wyvern with Clantech (and uses the same model, much like the Clint IIC does), but there you go. You can find it with Clan second-line garrison factions.
+
'''NEW MECH VARIANTS:''' There are a handful of new mech variants in this release, including: 10 new variants for the RWR's forces; a new Shadow Hawk-style Periphery mech named the Skadi; there's a pair of new Wyvern variants (including one with a new weapon, the Vehicular Grenade Launcher); there are a lot of new gladiator heroes, all of which are also on the hero reward lists (included are heroes for the following chassis: Argus, Cephalus, Dragon Fire, Dragoon, Great Turtle, Icarus II, Lancelot, Medusa, Phoenix, Rifleman III, Sirocco, Talos, Tarantula, Valkyrie II, Vision Quest, Wawkalak, Yeoman, Cyclone, Ironclad, Lao Hu, Osteon, Pulverizer, Scorpion, and Verfolger); a large batch of new introtech and 3050-tech Commandos have been released, including the Blazing Inferno II (also, the Blazing Inferno I has had its designation updated to match the newly assigned canon one).

'''NEW MECH:''' The Piledriver has arrived. This is a new 100 ton assault mech for the Sanctuary Worlds powers. It is a terrifying gunbrick, slow but heavily optimized for firepower. All the Sanctuary forces field it (and the Dane Sacellum's faction store sells it), go nick one.
+
'''COMMUNITY CONTENT NO MORE:''' In a new first for BTA, a piece of Community Content has graduated from CC into BTA proper. The Surtur, a Hanseatic League original chassis, has been moved into BTA proper and has received two more variants. It has also had its model changed from the Wolverine to the Valkyrie II to better represent the sword the Surtur carries.

'''NEW MECH:''' The Rattlesnake has slithered into battle! This is a 35 ton Inner Sphere mech that is a Davion fork of the Kuritan Jenner. Originally apocryphal, it was canonized recently and we have a model that works well for it. The Davions field this one and they also sell it on New Valencia.
+
'''BREAKING NEWS IS BROKEN:''' This is a bit of a sad announcement but the flashpoint Breaking News has... some issues. We discovered this after last patch when it was discovered that Breaking News still wasn't spawning properly. It also turns out that Breaking News isn't actually *done* and while technically playable does not meet the standards we like to keep BTA to. For now, it remains unavailable to play through until such time as we can manage to fix it. Sorry folks.

'''NEW MECHS:''' BTA has added approximately 150 or so new variants to the spawn lists for OpFor units. All of these are taken straight out of canon sources and are mechs we were missing. Many are from the mid-3060s but since BTA is really BTA 3060s Edition these days, that was deemed fine. Included are Clan and IS mechs of all kinds, from Primitives and super-early designs from the Golden Century and Age of War all the way to cutting-edge 3060s death machines. The IS got more mechs than the Clans, but the Clans still got a good amount of stuff. Some of this has been rolled into factory stores and faction stores as appropriate. Also, there's some spicy variants out there, like the Ostroc Mk.II and an Awesome with some unique gear. Keep your eyes open, MechWarrior!
+
'''COMMUNITY CONTENT:''' There's some new CC here today, hurrah! First we have a new pilot, Warper Jawa; there's a Hunchback with a Bombast PPC; the LBX-RAC5 got a further nerf (I don't want to hear any complaints, it needed it and you know it); the Blackjack BJ-1M was updated slightly; and there's a new JagerMech, the JM6-1M!

'''UPDATED MECHS:''' All Industrial Mechs, no matter what, have hardwired engine types now. People complained about them being inconsistent, so they're consistent now.
+
* Fixed Gambier's allowed biomes such that you can actually get duels there as intended.
 +
* There was some file consolidation on the backend that changed some filepaths. Most users should see no effect but submodders might need to look around for a few things.
 +
* Knight at the Omni was properly fixed, again.
 +
* Fixed some RepMes for the Goliath Scorpions.
 +
* Lots of fixed typos and such.
 +
* A few mechs got expanded factionality (mostly pertaining to the Hanseatic League).
 +
* The Mech Taser got a small buff, it was rather underwhelming.
 +
* The Dire Wolf and the Kit Fox had incorrect structure values, that has been corrected.
 +
* A bug with the Black Python BP-3 and BP-4 was corrected.

'''UPDATED PRIMITIVE MECHS:''' The three pieces of Primitive Technology (armor, engine, cockpit) have all been updated. The Engine now gives 1 bonus evasion on movement, the Cockpit now gives +2 pilot hits, and the Armor now gives 50% incoming melee damage reduction. They still do all the bad stuff too, but they have a few perks about them now. Also, importantly, all Primitive mechs now have Primitive Armor as a *default component*, meaning you can replace it but you cannot permanently remove it to get standard armor.

'''UPDATED FACTION STORES:''' Airdrop beacons have been lightly scattered throughout various Periphery faction stores, as follows: Mech Beacon (Aurigan, Tortugan), Turret Beacon (Chainelane, Illyrian), Tank Beacon (Circinian, Lothian), Strafing Run (Hansa), Drone Beacon (Rim).
+
'''IMPORTANT:''' v17.4 is an "update" update. In this case, read the detailed update notes above to see best practices on how to update to 17.3.

'''UPDATED BLACK MARKET:''' Someone correctly pointed out that the mech selection in the Black Market was somewhat lacking. Well, it's god damn fixed now. The list has expanded by more than 35 possiblities, and that's before counting the Clan, Sanctuary,  or Blakist mechs that can spawn (oh, and almost every Corsair is possible now). Oh, and you can sometimes buy Pallas parts now, just in case you never managed to fully salvage it when you find it naturally. ;)
+
'''IMPORTANT:''' v17.4 is not a save breaking update, your saves are compatible and will work fine.

'''UPDATED BATTLE ARMOR:''' The Salamander Clan BA suit is now properly resistant to fire. They're supposed to be immune and I think they are, but let us know if they're not.
+
'''REMINDER:''' This update, and others like it, are made possible by my Patreon and Ko-Fi supporters. Without their support, updates would come slower and be less impactful. If you feel like being a part of the support for BTA, you can find me on Patreon (https://www.patreon.com/bloodydoves) and on Ko-Fi (https://ko-fi.com/bloodydoves)

'''COMMUNITY CONTENT:''' Some new CC landed this patch, including Insanity PPC turrets; a new Stalker (the -3DC);
+
'''REMINDER:''' Custom mod commissions are still available if you're interested. If you'd like to get your own community content added to BTA DM me, bloodydoves, and we can work something out.

* Clan Endo-Steel has been brightened up in color in the mechbay a little, to hopefully make it less of a beige mess in there.

* The Commandos, Cyclopses, and Panthers have had their engines corrected.

* The Avatar's were supposed to have hardwired CASE but did not, so I've fixed that.

* The IED explosions have been removed from urban ambushes so as not to destroy the ears of anyone listening. Christ on a cracker that shit was loud.

* Fixed the Gulon GLN-3A's undertonnage issue.

* Updated the Behemoth (the very rare Wolf's Dragoons IS version of the Stone Rhino) to be record sheet accurate since it has one now.

* Fixed the Community Content AS7-RG to be drop legal since it was not.

* Fixed the Black Market in the Jacobson Haven, now all their worlds properly have Black Markets.

* Rotary ACs have had their minimum range removed, because they don't have min range in canon I guess?? Well, they can shoot in melee now, hope someone enjoys this responsibly.

* The Perseus has been fixed as its were not particularly TT accurate and now have been made to be so. All hail the leg weapons!

* The planet Hardcore is now a gameworld. Enjoy?

* BattleMech Claws now do extra attacks, because claw go snibsnab.

* Just so many DLL updates, you don't even know.

'''IMPORTANT:''' v15.2 is an "update" update. In this case, clear your Mods folder manually and then run the installer, it'll do the work for you.

Revision as of 19:46, 1 April 2024

v17.4 (aka the "Amaris Fools!" patch) has been released to the installer. It's our annual April Fool's patch so you'll definitely want to see what we've got cookin' this time!

SOMEHOW, AMARIS RETURNED: The Inner Sphere once knew true fear as Stefan Amaris, the Usurper of the Star League and conquerer of the Hegemony, crushed those who dared stand before his might and now, after centuries of hiding, he has returned to claim what is rightfully his.

THE RATTLER COMETH: Ok, you might think this is an April Fool's event but no, this is very real.

THE HANSEATIC CRUSADE HAS ARRIVED: As many of you predicted, the inclusion of the Goliath Scorpions and Nueva Castile was 100% a prelude to the Hanseatic Crusade.

NEW VOICEPACKS: At RogueTech's request, we have incorporated five new voicepacks from RT into BTA. <3

DFA PENALTIES IMPLEMENTED: In order to attempt to curb the AI's extreme overuse of Death-From-Above attacks, we have implemented a DFA penalty setting. Right now, the DFA penalty is +7, which is pretty steep. We'll see if it helps curb the AI's bad behavior or not.

DROP SLOT ADJUSTMENT: The UI has improved for putting Battle Armor onto BA carrier units.

NEW PERFORMANCE ENHANCEMENT: Thanks to the work of community member, friend, and team member of BTA, Jamie Wolf, it has been discovered that HBS BT has a large amount of internal telemetry that HBS intended to use for data collection. However, that telemetry is no longer being used by HBS but *is* still running, causing noticeable performance slowdowns. In order to help performance, Jamie developed a mod that disables the telemetry from running and thus claws back some small performance gains. They're small but every bit counts! Thanks Jamie!

UPDATED OMNIMECH LOADOUT: The Preta (the Word of Blake Celestial OmniMech) has had its loadouts adjusted.

CLAN QUIRK MODIFIED: The Clan quirk now provides 10% decreased heat generation. This was done in order to help the Clans remain dangerous, help Clan chassis remain competitive, and to help the Clans manage their increased weapon heat in hot biomes.

NEW MECH CHASSIS: The Tolson, a 60 ton non-canon Star League e-war chassis, has snuck into battle. This mech is focused heavily on command and control functions and serves as an excellent e-war platform thanks to its integrated Command Console. Find it wherever old Star League mechs are found, as well as in the factory at Tukayyid where ComStar produces it.

NEW MECH VARIANTS: There are a handful of new mech variants in this release, including: 10 new variants for the RWR's forces; a new Shadow Hawk-style Periphery mech named the Skadi; there's a pair of new Wyvern variants (including one with a new weapon, the Vehicular Grenade Launcher); there are a lot of new gladiator heroes, all of which are also on the hero reward lists (included are heroes for the following chassis: Argus, Cephalus, Dragon Fire, Dragoon, Great Turtle, Icarus II, Lancelot, Medusa, Phoenix, Rifleman III, Sirocco, Talos, Tarantula, Valkyrie II, Vision Quest, Wawkalak, Yeoman, Cyclone, Ironclad, Lao Hu, Osteon, Pulverizer, Scorpion, and Verfolger); a large batch of new introtech and 3050-tech Commandos have been released, including the Blazing Inferno II (also, the Blazing Inferno I has had its designation updated to match the newly assigned canon one).

COMMUNITY CONTENT NO MORE: In a new first for BTA, a piece of Community Content has graduated from CC into BTA proper. The Surtur, a Hanseatic League original chassis, has been moved into BTA proper and has received two more variants. It has also had its model changed from the Wolverine to the Valkyrie II to better represent the sword the Surtur carries.

BREAKING NEWS IS BROKEN: This is a bit of a sad announcement but the flashpoint Breaking News has... some issues.

COMMUNITY CONTENT: There's some new CC here today, hurrah!

  • Fixed Gambier's allowed biomes such that you can actually get duels there as intended.
  • There was some file consolidation on the backend that changed some filepaths. Most users should see no effect but submodders might need to look around for a few things.
  • Knight at the Omni was properly fixed, again.
